Tuesday was another day of water fights and public holiday so we stayed indoors most of the day. Songkran, like NYE back home, is a lot of fun when you’re young but becomes a bit much when you’re not in the full flush of youth and the novelty has worn off (talk about jaded travellers, but we are getting on in years, too!).


Wednesday was the day for the bike tour and we set off at 7.30 while it was still nice and cool. We were picked up at the hotel by the owner of the bike tour company, a Dutchman named Fook whose real name is Fooker, which doesn’t really work in English. He was happy when the Thais called him “Fookee” until he found out that the “ee” on the end means “to take a dump” in Thai, so he decided that Fook was the best compromise all…
